Dispositions are the values, commitments, and professional ethics that influence behaviors toward students, families, colleagues, and communities and affect student learning, motivation, and development as well as the educator’s professional growth.
Part 1: Dispositions Self-Assessment Survey
After reviewing the “Professional Dispositions of Learners,” complete Part 1 of the "Dispositions Self-Assessment Survey and Video Link" by checking the corresponding box to rank how you currently value each disposition on a scale from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree.
Part 2: Video Submission
Based on your understanding of your own dispositions, respond to the following questions in a 3-5 minute video submission:
- What is the special education teachers’ role in supporting learning, improving, planning, and practice, upholding professional expectations and ethics, and collaboratively advancing the profession?
- What dispositions, that you currently possess, will help you become a successful teacher? What dispositions do you need to work on before you enter the classroom as a first-year teacher?
- What effect could personal biases have on expectations that teachers have for their students? How could these biases affect their relationships with students and their families?
